In a significant milestone for education and community support, Archway Trivium and Trivium Prep, the Great Hearts academies in Goodyear, Arizona, have been designated as Purple Star School Candidates. This recognition, granted to only three other schools in Arizona during the pilot year, highlights the academies’ commitment to providing support for children of military families during relocations and transitions. Given their close proximity to Luke Air Force Base, these academies are poised to play a pivotal role in fostering a supportive environment for military students.

To commemorate this noteworthy achievement, the academies hosted a special purple ribbon-cutting ceremony at their shared campus. The event was not only a celebration of the academies’ commitment to the Purple Star Schools program but also an opportunity to recognize and honor the military families within the school community. The purple ribbon, symbolizing support for military families, served as a visual representation of the schools’ dedication to this important cause.

The Purple Star Schools program is an initiative aimed at assisting the children of military families, offering resources and support during the challenging periods of relocation and transition. Archway Trivium and Trivium Prep’s commitment to this cause reflects their dedication to creating a nurturing educational environment that considers the unique needs of military students and their families.

Chris Wright, a Marine Corp Veteran and third-grade teacher at Archway Trivium, will serve as the liaison between the military and the two academies for the program. “This program has spoken to my heart so much already and I’m very excited about the potential we have to be a loving community, a loving group of people for our military families… and I can’t wait to see what this program becomes,” he said.

Wright opened the ceremony with the Pledge of Allegiance and then introduced the speakers that would follow. Fighter Wing Commander Jason Rueschhoff and Melissa Rueschhoff (who are also Trivium parents), former Arizona State Representative Joanne Osborne, Military State Representative Colonel Peter Abercrombie, Luke Air Force Base School Liaison Stacy Holland, and Great Hearts Arizona Superintendent Brandon Crowe, all spoke of the work that has taken place to bring this program to Arizona.

Situated in close proximity to Luke Air Force Base, the academies are strategically positioned to serve the needs of military families in the region. Recognizing the importance of this location as the largest Fighter Wing in the U.S. Air Force, they are taking proactive steps to enhance their ability to support and mentor military students. This involves specialized training for select staff and students who will play a crucial role in fostering a sense of community and understanding among their military peers.
